Lumbago refers to back pain in the lumbar region. The causes are varied, the most well-known being ""lumbago."" Causes of lumbago can include: 

Degenerative changes: Disc damage such as herniation or bulging, dysfunction of supporting ligaments, joint disorders of the vertebrae, bony changes like bone spurs.

Congenital malformations: Block or wedge vertebrae, growth disorders like scoliosis or Scheuermann's disease.

Diseases or infections: Rheumatism or infections.

Skeletal diseases: Osteoporosis, injuries up to fractures, or tumors in the spine.

Osteochondrosis refers to a change in the cartilage of the intervertebral discs, accompanied by reactions of the adjacent vertebral bodies. Typical causes and triggers include: 

Herniated discs or late effects of surgeries; Inflammations of the intervertebral discs; Strains from prolonged sitting or heavy physical work that put significant stress on the discs; This condition often leads to instability and increased mobility of the affected spinal segment.

Osteoporosis is a metabolic disease that leads to a reduction in bone mass and strength. This often results in fractures (especially in the spine and femur) and can lead to a rounded back or mobility restrictions due to the collapse of the vertebral bodies.

Scoliosis describes a lateral curvature of the spine, often accompanied by a rotation of the vertebral bodies. 

Causes: 

90% of scolioses are idiopathic, meaning the causes are unknown. The remaining 10% arise from congenital malformations or damage, such as muscular or neural disorders. A non-fixed scoliosis can be compensated for by positioning while lying down and occurs, for example, with unequal leg lengths.

Spondylolysis is a fissure in the joint process of a vertebra. This can lead to spondylolisthesis, a vertebral slip, often affecting the lumbar spine. The causes can be distinguished as follows: 

Pediatric/Adolescent Form: Instability in the L5/S1 area due to interruption of the vertebral arch.

Degenerative Form: Height reduction of the disc and general weakening of stabilizing structures lead to vertebral slip in the L4/L5 area.

Spondylarthrosis: Degenerative changes of the small vertebral joints, also known as facet syndrome.

Spondylosis: Degenerative changes of the vertebral bodies and discs, often with bony remodeling and nerve compression.

Herniated Disc: Displacement of disc tissue pressing on surrounding nerves, causing numbness or muscle disorders.
